About the project
Heroin is a series that captures the moment right after injection, when the drug reaches the brain, withdrawal symptoms disappear and the rush kicks in.
The series shows a moment, that is normally associated with overdoses, unpredictability and diseases such as hepatitis and HIV, but for users in most cases is an undramatic situation and a calm moment, where they inject their drug
and start to feel on top of things again.
The portraits are calm, clean and leave out all the elements that are normally associated with heroin. No blood, no tourniquets, no syringes, no needle marks. The viewer is allowed to experience an undramatic and calm moment that challenges the perception of how heroin users are normally presented in the media.
